Are VR systems still popular with gamers?

A few years ago, VR headsets and games were very popular and were at the top of many adults Christmas lists but now they seem to have fallen out of favour somewhat making games developers wonder why this is and whether they can rekindle that initial interest.

The problem with most of the VR headsets is that they are simply not comfortable to wear. They are heavy and awkward which puts people off wanting to play a game whilst wearing it. Until the technology improves so that headsets become smaller and lighter this issue will still be a problem.

The range of games that have been developed so far for VR systems is not expansive enough to engage all gamers and on the whole they are quite short, taking only a few hours to complete. As they are expensive to buy in the first place people think it is not worth buying VR versions of games.

As children are not supposed to use VR headsets, straightaway you have eliminated a huge percentage of the market who may have wanted to play games in this way. So, the decline in VR systems and VR games sales is seen as indicative of the trend away from this technology, at least for now.
